IPAN is an animal welfare organization, dedicated to prevent cruelty towards animals, to improve the health and welfare of domestic and wild animals, to protect the environment and by so doing improve the livelihood of people depending on their well-being and balance.Controlling rabies in dogs to protect human lives has been our major focus from the beginning. We believe that Animal Welfare Means Human Welfare.
Established in 1997, IPAN is a registered Trust, managed by a Board of Trustees and headed by the Managing Trustee Nigel Otter, a well-known animal activist in India who has received Jaigopal Garodia Animal Activist Award in 2003, Civil Society Citizen Karmaveer Puraskaar in 2008 and Kulapathi Munshi Award in 2013 for his dedication for animal welfare and nature conservation. He is also appointed as an Hon. Animal Welfare Officer by Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and has been a member of the Governing Body of the Federation of Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO). Nigel is also on the board of Animal Rahat, an organization based in Maharasthra, that works for the working bullock health and welfare.
IPAN is recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and it is a member society of WSPA (World Society for Protection of Animals) and iCONGO (Indian Confederation of NGO’s).
IPAN is a main collaboration partner of the Worldwide Veterinary Service and Mission Rabies projects in India. and most of the IPAN veterinary service and rabies vaccination work is nowadays done in association with and funded by these UK-based organisations.
